One patient, One Physio, One Step at a time

quotes-dark This is the most rewarding course on offer for Physiotherapists. I certified as a PINC physiotherapist in 2010 and it completely changed my professional life. Working with women going through a cancer journey is the best thing you can possibly do as a physiotherapist. You are making a difference in someone’s life, almost immediately, but they are also making a difference in yours. They are the most inspiring group of women and through the PINC program I have challenged myself to things I had never dreamed of previously. I have gone from a full time musculoskeletal physiotherapist to a full time Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapist and I will never look back. I can’t recommend this course highly enough.

quotes-dark I have been a PINC certified physio since 2009 and can honestly say that it has added so much to my clinical practice and to me personally. I feel the initial training gave me the skills to assess and support women through all stages of their diagnosis safe in the knowledge that I could reason well clinically and build on my strong musculoskeletal background. I have received excellent support from Lou and the trust along the way and love being part of the “PINC family”. The programme is very highly regarded in Nelson and we work closely with the local surgeons and cancer support services which allows us to give the best possible care to all women coming through the service.

I feel very privileged to be able to share womens’ journeys from diagnosis through medical and surgical treatments and beyond. Many of them continue to attend our small group classes and others have supported us with fundraising initiatives .They continue to inspire me daily with their courage and hope and I delight in seeing them regain their strength and fitness.
quotes-dark After 19yrs experience as a physiotherapist, completing the PINC Cancer Certification course in 2011 would be one of the highlights of my career.
I feel privileged to be part of the PINC and STEEL team. It is one of the most personally rewarding areas of physiotherapy that I have ever worked in.To make a real difference to someone’s day, to improve their quality of life is wonderful.

The 3 years I have worked as a PINC physiotherapist have included many tears and many laughs. They become more than just patients. It is a privilege to work with this group of people who continue to inspire me daily.

I also completed the STEEL certification course in 2013. I am thankful to be able to offer these services now to both men and women in a regional area, where they often have to travel long distances for treatment.

I feel extremely proud to be part of the PINC and STEEL team and I will endeavour to continue on this journey with these individuals to help them as they continue to fight their fight.

quotes-dark My name is Lorna and I qualified in England as a physio in 1996. I have done many courses to keep me both up to date but also to stay interested in physio. I have done all sorts of courses over the years from the weird and wonderful to the very conventional, on average about 3 – 4 courses per year (I get bored easily).

In 2008 I was at a crossroads with my career and wasn’t sure if I was going to continue with musculoskeletal physiotherapy, luckily this is when I found PINC. I enrolled on the course; it was a 4-day course in a hotel in town at that stage. For me attending a course for 4 days straight was difficult (tough to stay engaged and awake, I had just had my second child), I wasn’t sure I would be able to concentrate for that long without drifting off.

But Lou and her very talented team of speakers were captivating; I don’t think I have ever been so present in a course before, it reignited my passion for physiotherapy again. It was the best course I had ever been on by far, until now.

I have just finished the STEEL course, which was absolutely excellent. Again there were a stream of incredibly intelligent and entertaining lecturers who are at the top of their respective fields but this time the course is structured so that it is online and can be done in your own time (relatively – you have a week to view the videos and complete the homework which is very doable). This format was fantastic as it is much easier to work around your life. The content and manuals are still of a very high standard and the support and advertising material is fantastic. But best of all you feel like you are part of a very special community doing valued work. Being a PINC and STEEL physiotherapist has changed my working life for the better and to be able to work with these cancer patients is an absolute honor

quotes-dark This is a comprehensive training in Oncology Physiotherapy that would be hard to match elsewhere, and fits in well with musculoskeletal, pelvic floor rehab and / or lympheodema work. I highly recommend this course.
The PINC and STEEL certification programs have given me confidence to support cancer patients through all phases of their treatment and recovery and/or disease progression. You can see the difference it makes when people gain knowledge and improve their physical capabilities. My aim is to be a positive influence and it has been a rewarding experience for me as well.

quotes-dark Thank you Lou & the PINC team for the fantastic PINC course that I recently completed with you. Each lecture was full of great information. The course was really well structured and full of exciting clinical content. I found that the online course delivery worked very well and I appreciate the option of webinar times so that we could participate from Australia. I particularly appreciated the marketing advice included towards the end of the course. It will be useful in helping to get the program up and running in our physiotherapy practice. I can't wait to get started!!! Thank you!

quotes-dark Thank you and the team for selecting me, I am delighted!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed the PINC certification and I have learnt a lot from it. My reason for wanting to complete the STEEL certification is that I returning to the UK and I am going to set up a Cancer rehabilitation service in London at the APPI clinic I will be working at. I would like to be able to offer men as well as women equal opportunities to cancer rehabilitation services. I am very excited to learn more to enable me to provide services for both male and females affected by cancer. The PINC course was great, the lectures were well delivered and covered a wide variety of topics. I really have found an area of Physiotherapy I am truly passionate about! Thank you so much again!!!!

Gemma Ellis, APPI Clinic London

quotes-dark Thank you so much, the course has been great. I have really enjoyed it - the pace, content and spectrum of knowledge that has been shared is excellent. The time and effort that has put into making and editing all the presentations is unbelievable - but it has paid off with such excellent presentations. I am really looking forward to taking this out into my local community, it will be challenging but I am looking forward to delivering a very much needed service.

Many thanks again for the course, it really has been brilliant.

quotes-dark I completed the PINC certification training over a year ago and it has led to a new service in Northern Ireland in partnership with a local charity. It has enabled us to provide a service unmet by the current NHS model. With more people facing a cancer diagnosis and thankfully more people surviving it - we need to develop more services in innovative ways in order to meet the needs of the population. Very enjoyable course with thorough, current and evidence based content. Interactive learning and the opportunity to network with physiotherapists in similar roles across the world. You also have an ongoing platform of support and peer discussion which I think is invaluable.

Grainne Donnelly, Northern Ireland

quotes-dark I am so happy to endorse both PINC and STEEL. A fabulous program to offer, a 'brand' or program that's easy to market and fundraise for and a very supportive online community led by the incredible Lou James. I now have a steady stream of very grateful patients, and its a role I dearly love!

Lauren Locke , Adelaide, Australia

quotes-dark I know you hear this all the time but the courses you run are really brilliant. I am definitely aware of the fact that I have LOTS to learn but I have already learned so much from Lou and her team.
I feel that I am much better equipped to provide good care for people affected by cancer and to help them optimise and improve what they have and to help them get back to doing what they want to do.
You all do such good work!

Emma Houlihan, Galway, Ireland

quotes-dark I want to express my gratitude for the training and support you have provided in the last 12 weeks.
The PINC&STEEL is the best course I have attended in the past few years. It is packed with a tones of invaluable information, the interactive webinar and case studies have made the course very practical.
I have no doubt to recommend your course to my colleagues and I think some of them have either enrolled or showed their interest in doing this course.
Lou, your passion and action have rocked the cancer rehabilitation world and you are changing the culture of rehabilitation across the globe.
I come from an Asian (Chinese) background and I see there is a huge gap in cancer rehabilitation in those Asian countries, I hope the health professionals and people in the community will also get the benefit from PINC&STEEL.
Cancer Rehabilitation is a gift of life for people after major illness.

Carol Chan, Sydney, Australia

quotes-dark I am an OT in South Africa, working in a General practice as well as an oncology practice. The information I have gained on the course has been very valuable in both settings. I have applied the techniques learnt to non-cancer patients as well. Even chronic venous insufficiency. There was a lot of physical and exercise knowledge, which I appreciated and feel has grown me as an OT and enriched my practice. But there is so much more to it than physio work. The course also covers medication side effects(which we all need to know), fatigue management, cognitive therapy, resilience, sleep hygiene, and how to approach the patient.

I am of the opinion that our fields overlap a great deal and, in such specialised areas of practice, we start working in a trans-disciplinary team instead of a multidisciplinary team. That is we all have our own shining qualities according to our base profession but if it came down to it, we can stand in for each other where needed.
