Our Cancer Rehab For All Scholarships target the growth of cancer rehabilitation service provision attuned to the complex range of needs of groups and populations experiencing negative oncology outcomes.
Our seven scholarships have been established to grow and improve the workforce of Allied Health Professionals working in oncology rehabilitation.
Two of these are specifically for applicants living in Aotearoa and focus on Māori and Pasifika people. The other four are available for applicants worldwide and target inequities affecting children & teens, over 65s, those living rurally, and minority & marginalised groups.

Purpose: This scholarship and the additional Cancer Rehab For All Scholarships assist physiotherapists and occupational therapists to complete postgraduate study in oncology rehabilitation and develop an effective and sustainable oncology rehab service to meet the needs of the population they are serving. This Rural Health Scholarship focuses on the unique needs of rural people, their families, and their communities.
Background: It is known that rural people are less likely to receive cancer follow-up or supportive services than patients in metropolitan areas. For many rurally located people with cancer, transport is a significant barrier. Many struggle to afford the costs of time and travel to manage their health optimally. Consequently, rural health outcomes are poorer than the outcomes of those living closer to major centres and in urban areas. Research shows that training rural people to provide health care within their own communities can change this. It not only leads to better outcomes for those requiring care, it also ensures better retention of the health professionals and therefore more sustainability of the vital services they offer. At PINC & STEEL Cancer we are committed to reducing the inequities experienced by those located rurally, by taking steps to support the development of cancer rehabilitation services more attuned to the needs of rural people and their communities.
Application Criteria: Applications are open to anyone working in a smaller centre or rural community who has completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification).

Purpose: This scholarship will assist physiotherapists and occupational therapists to complete postgraduate studies in oncology rehabilitation and develop an effective and sustainable oncology rehab service to meet the needs of the population they are serving. This Senior Health Scholarship focuses on the unique needs of older people.
Background: More than 50% of people who have cancer are 65 or older and age adds a layer of complexity to living with cancer. Supporting seniors with cancer presents a number of unique challenges due to the likelihood of comorbidities alongside a cancer diagnosis. Older people are also often more vulnerable to treatment toxicities that can have significant impacts on their quality of life. Transport to services can be a limiting factor for older people with cancer receiving rehabilitation support. At PINC & STEEL Cancer we are committed to reducing these inequities by taking steps to support the development of cancer rehabilitation services more attuned to the needs of those 65 years and older.
Application Criteria: Applications are open to those working predominantly with people over 65 years of age, who have completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy (or equivalent international qualification).

Purpose: This scholarship, and the additional Cancer Rehab For All Scholarships assist physiotherapists and occupational therapists to complete postgraduate study in oncology rehabilitation and develop an effective and sustainable oncology rehab service to meet the needs of the population they are serving. This PINC & STEEL Health Scholarship focuses on the unique needs of younger people.
Background: Survival rates from childhood cancers continue to improve and there is a growing focus on the quality of life of children with cancer, during and after treatment. Fortunately, children with cancer are prime candidates for rehabilitation services that may lessen the developmental delay or loss of function related to the cancer diagnosis and treatment experience. We know that many childhood cancer survivors carry a significant risk of late morbidity and mortality as an unfair consequence of the numerous treatment exposures used to cure their cancer. At PINC & STEEL, we are committed to breaking down barriers and creating an environment that is more attuned to supporting young people affected by cancer.
Application Criteria: Applications are open to those dedicated to growing a service to meet the needs of younger people, who have completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification). This is available to anyone worldwide.
Selection Criteria: Applications are open to anyone who has completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy with at least 5 years of clinical experience.

This Māori Health Scholarship focuses on the needs of hapu and whānau.
Background: In the last five years, more than 15,000 Māori have been diagnosed with cancer with less than 5% of those accessing oncology rehabilitation programs. Purpose: This scholarship, and the additional Cancer Rehab For All Scholarships assist physiotherapists and occupational therapists to complete postgraduate study in oncology rehabilitation and develop an effective and sustainable oncology rehab service to meet the needs of the population they are serving. This Health Scholarship focuses on the unique needs of a minority or marginalised group identified by the scholarship applicant.
Background: There is ample evidence that healthcare inequity impacts minority and marginalised groups worldwide. These inequities adversely affect the health and wellbeing of those who are voluntarily or involuntarily part of these groups. At PINC & STEEL we are committed to reducing healthcare inequities associated with oncology rehabilitation by taking steps to support the development of cancer rehabilitation services more attuned to the complex range of needs of those who are part of minority or marginalised groups. These groups include (but are not limited to) those distinguished by ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, and language.
